Ahoy, You can start out with the Venture MacGregor Club, membership $20 a year, Tuesday Nite racing, or Women's Sailing Associatioin, $100, a year, that gets you into all the yacht club regattas. I'm in both the above clubs. [WSA meets at SMWYC second Tuesday 6:30 of each month. VMF meets third Thursday at SMWYC at same time.] Or, Santa Monica Windjammers Yacht Club for a full Facility yacht club, South Coast Corinthian yacht Club, a bit more economical and spartan but members who race Cal 20's, and for the more fancier YCs there are Del Rey YC (swim pool) and Cal Yacht Club (holds most prestigious regattas like King of Spain...I think that's world class Star boats?). Going Whale hunting now on my whale boat inspired Cal 24. See yah! Howarth > Moorestown, New Jersey > rshowarth@.. . You might think about LA Harbor and LA Yacht Club. The club will be involved in the new marina that has broken ground (water?) this week and will open in 2011. The club will have about 170 slips, out of about 600 new ones. The club also has moorings at the island that can be reserved in summer and there is a nice racing program, albeit not as active as when I joined in 1977. There is a small junior program using Cal 20s that are club owned. Access to the harbor is down the Harbor ( 110) freeway and is at least as convenient as Marina Del Rey.
