Cal 25 for sale in the Puget Sound
Matt Beland2009-02-16 19:49 UTC
Hi all,
We're two-boat-owners at the moment, and the buyer for our Cal 25 has
flaked on us. You might say that makes us motivated sellers, and you'd
be right. ;) The buyer-who-was (actually, he has a good excuse, I'm
just not charitable about the way he went about it) had a commitment
of $1500. Too high? Make an offer. Currently in the Port of Everett
Marina, a 26' slip there is $151.32/month.
Hull #1194, 1971 Cal 25. She has three old sails, main, 155 genoa,
working jib, with a double-foil forestay, and has some of the hardware
for a spinnaker (mast track and car, fairleads, etc.) No pole, and
most of the spinnaker running rigging has been removed (I didn't
intend to replace it until I had a pole.) Bottom job in June of 2007,
currently needs a pressure wash but otherwise in good condition. New
mainsail cover in excellent condition. Barlow 16 primary winches and
another on the cabin top. Mostly bronze deck hardware. Old and
reliable Johnson 10 HP Seahorse outboard; as I said, old (1950's) but
the most reliable outboard I've ever had, with new fuel pump,
impeller, etc. as of last spring. (And stored in my shed over the
winter, so it should still be in the same shape.) I also have the
transom board if you like to run engineless. Running rigging is old
but usable, the same can be said for the hull - she's in good
condition and is overall very sound, but her cosmetics could use some
touching up. Plexiglass one-piece companionway cover, classic pop-top
hatch with broken hatch slides - it's usable but if I were continuing
to work on this boat I'd have someone fabricate new slides (and I can
provide a measure drawing of what's required.)
Inside, she has a wood-burning fireplace (Dickinson) installed in
hanging locker, port-a-potty in place of the head, 11 gallon
freshwater bladder under the V-berth, one-burner unpressurized Origo
alcohol stove, basic fishfinder-depth transducer, old fixed-mount VHF
with masthead antenna (I do mean old, but has channel 22A, 25W
transmit, and works well - just old.) Electrical, there isn't much; a
new-last-season Group 27 battery that runs navigation, VHF, etc. and
is charged from shore power. The solar panel is old enough to not
provide useful output so it's currently disconnected, but not removed.
Everything else works, from the hand-pumped faucet on the sink to the
hardware to the VHF; we regularly sailed and maintained the boat until
this last fall when we decided we simply couldn't manage our two kids
and ourselves in a manner that we considered "fun" without better on-
board accommodations.
Overall, I hate to let her go, but the wife and kids want a little
more comfort and I'm not going to argue with them <grin>. She needs
some love and attention, but she's not been abandoned or neglected; I
have no qualms taking her out tomorrow for a long sail (other than
that whole "work" thing). She mostly needs some wax, a little oil or
varnish, maybe new lines and so on. Sails if you want to race or get
there in a hurry. Great for a first "big" boat.
Attached photo is from a Labor Day weekend cruise to Anacortes, WA; I
have more photos if you're interested. Sorry, the dinghy's not
included, and the motor on the back is not the one on the boat -
that's a cranky Mercury I have been having an abusive relationship
with. (Note the open toolbox, etc.) You don't want it.

F South, slip 49. The only boat on the dock with a bright yellow sail
cover.
The engine and some loose gear is not on board (stored at home) but
feel free to look around. I can be there late afternoon on Friday or
over the weekend if you want to go through the cabin; she's due for
visit anyway.

Good looking boat Matt. I will be back in town this Saturday afternoon but then off to San Diego for a week. So I have a little time and will try to get up and take a look. Is the slip transferable? What's the actual slip length, 26? Since I live in Bothell but our Cal 31 is in the South Sound it would be nice to have something closer to home....just not sure I want to be a multi-boat owner at this stage but I do have some brothers who might join in........Please email your cell off line and I'll call you..
