Not necessarily does leaner means hotter, sometimes means cooler. I recall
from my time in navy there is a certain optimal ratio where there is
neither excess air nor excess fuel, where the engine runs really hot.
Excess air may mean it runs cooler. So, regards using a 50:1 vs. 100:1
that Suzuki recommends, I'm not sure. Probably best to consult Suzuki.
Meanwhile my mechanic didn't think it was a lack of oil that made my
Evinrude 6 blow it's bearings, but then I'm not sure then why it
happened. Poor engineering?
And...Small outboards are notoriously de-tuned, aren't
they?...compared to 2 cycle motorcycles which put out easily twice or thrice as
much HP per CC. On the other hand, the motorcycle engines rarely are
running at full load and max. RPM.
One factor in my outboards demise may be that the motor had been sitting unused on the back of
a boat for 15 years..not untypical in Marina del Rey. My mechanic put
it up for sale when it's owner refused to pay the repair bill for the
overhaul. However I did get a good two years of service from the engine, but it was frequently in the shop, possibly cause I didn't run the carb dry each time after using it, like I do now, it got gunked up frequently. Uggh!
