In 1987, the STARS & STRIPES crew applied a thin film material to the hull that contained grooves like a record (we do remember records?). It apparently passed muster...no successful protests. That was when the races were in Fremantle, Western Australia. Not to open a "can of worms", but one of the better AC competitions in recent memory, it seems to have just sunk to new low points each time since!
