I wonder if you could implement the same idea using the original mounting points for the blocks on the gunwales or cockpit coamings. You seem to have secured them to the cockpit seats. And instead of adding a bail to the boom, would it be possible to use the original tang at the boom end?" CB Rudy at DR Marine (he was very involved with O'Day sailboats) was helpful with the layout. I think the blocks could easily be mounted on the cockpit coamings, and have thought about moving them there, perhaps next year. Mounting them there would give you additional height over the tiller handle when you are running with the wind. There may have been a tang at the end of my boom as I can see where something broke off so that's why the bail went on. The boom is supported by a short wire that is attached to the split backstay and clipped to a tang on top of the boom. That piece of steel is too thin to support the load of the main sail under way. One thing I really like about this set-up is the really easy quick release of the main sheet as all you have to do is pull down and the line is free to run out. I've sailed a J-24 at Sail Newport and the main sheet control is different (mounted to a traveller), and I found a little difficult to release in an emergency. Good luck! Chris Barszcz Cal 20
