Ron,
You need to crew on a boat that flies a chute before you decide to just do it on your own boat. It's a complicated thing, and requires a crew that knows what to do when. And a skipper who is experienced. Don't believe those guys who have boats with a sprit who fly chutes. It ain't the same thing as flying a real chute.

It also helps to fly your spinnaker only in light air until you're
really competent and also have a capable crew. I'm a light-air
spinnaker person (almost said "guy,' but that confuses the terminology)
because I'm usually sailing with one inexperienced crew member.
