Tightening rub rail

How do you tighten the rub rail without tearing the ends, or is there a better way to secure the rub rail. I purchased new material 2yrs. ago and it needs tightening, any solutions?

Jim, what flavor of boat? The rub rails vary, Do you have any screws in the rail that go up into the deck-hull joint lip?
