steering pedistal

I want to know how to take apart the yacht specialties steering station. How does the compass come off to get to the wireing and cables

Dave,
Assuming you have the standard issue of the day Ritchie compass, there
should be a couple of screws that hold the compass light hood down.
If you remove them, the metal shell lifts off and exposes a series of
screws around the rim of the compass base. They may well break when
you try to remove them, but you can drill and tap new holes as you re-
install. Once the compass is removed, you will see a series of
countersunk machine screws that hold the shift collar down. They may
be tough to remove as well. Lots of Kroil and cross your fingers.
It's all a hassle to deal with -- one of my more trying experiences.
Hope this helps.

If I recall correctly from taking the compass off my Cal 31 when it got too
large a bubble, DO NOT remove all the numerous screws that are exposed when
you remove the metal cover. Some of these are what hold the compass
together. The others are the screws that hold the whole compass assembly in
place.
