Hi Gene,
How do you mean, "totally trashed"?
My Cal 46 is older than yours, (hull #3 launched in November 1967), has been around the world by the previous owner, Jack Jensen and was alledgedly rebuilt in England in about 1980. I have never had to do anything to mine but change the oil. I did change to 90# in about 1984 and fill to above the top bearing. I have 3,600 hours on it since 1987. I always assure perfect prop shaft alignment.
So far, no problems.

Also me. Walter ran off a match to my CAL 40 (don't remember specific
model) five years ago. It cost about $2K.
Cheers

I too have a Walters V-drive. Check with Great Lakes Power Products @ 440/951-5111. They repair big trucks, tractors and earth movers. The founder owns the patents on the Paragon transmissions so many of us have. They offered to completely rebuild my trannie for approximately $1,000 and said they could handle the Walters too.

Walter will rebuild drives. You should check with them.

Hi Gene,
I just sold a running take out, Walters RV 30, 1.5 - 1 redux on eBay for $250.
I have another RV 30 attached to an old Paragon gear. The vee drive housing is cracked, but the internals appear okay. I am going to part it out. Paragon gears are hard to find.
"corrosion in the case" ?
Are the gears pitted? Is the cast iron case damaged?
If your case is sound, you may be able to replace, bearings and seals.
Maybe you can use some of the internal parts of my RV30.
