Rope Clutch

Guys,I have a mystery. I broke a handle on one of my rope clutches on my 29. I figured I'd just take it off, call the manufacturer and order a replacement. But, there is no name on the clutch. Anywhere. I have no clue who made it, but my Cal dates from 1972. I know, I can buy a new Garhauer for a little over $100, but I like to repair when possible. Any ideas? Thanks,Dave Dobbs, Cal29 411

Go with the Garhauer! I replaced everything with Garhauer to reduce the failures at sea. I would also guess that even if you were able to find the manufacturer, it is so old that the maker doesn't carry any kind of replacement parts for it. Now I've been modestly surprised now again (like being able to find a bearing for my Barient), but usually not. I think you have 4 options: 1. Jerry rig something, 2. Get a machine shop to make you a new part--for $200, 3. Two words--E--Bay, or, 4. Get a new one. A new one will have the benefit of modern technology. Jack Cal 31
