Old Stuff

Guys,Jack's reply to me about old stuff and parts not being available reminded me about my bilge pump experience. I had a broken hand operated bilge pump, from the 1972 Cal, and I searched the internet, and sure enough, the Bosworth Company, who made it, was still in business, and did indeed have the part I needed, and have a very nice customer service dept. and the part fits perfectly and it isn't made in China. So, instead of replacing it for $60, I repair it for $19.70, plus shipping, and the pump is like new. I love that. That's what defines me as a sailor, if you can fix it yourself do it. You'll always do a better job.Regards,David Dobbs, Cal29 411

That's what defines me as a sailor, if you can fix it yourself do it. You'll always do a better job. The job is usually done better, and with less waste, but the other benefit is that you'll be able to handle repairs when there's no "expert" around to do it for you. We sailors are supposed to be independent and self-sufficient. Chris Campbell
