Engineering test

Just how durable is the typical fiberglass boat? Check this out:

Warning: not for the faint hearted. If you love your boat, you may not want
to see this.

The sounds of laughter were more than I could stand. Wonder what
condemned this hull? Probably fewer problems than I've tackled on
Mariposa.....

Wow that was awful. Maybe it was necessary but I was disturbed. Especially
since I am so far from my Cal 29. I won't get to sail her for a very long
time. Sometimes life isn't fair.

There were several areas where they stripped the gelcoat down to bare
laminate. I would think the laminate had started peeling in the layup.
There is no repair when the hull starts delaminating. While it looks
structurally sound, it would put the crew in danger from a catastrophic
failure while at sea.
The laughter was more morbid than humorous.
YMMV

I think John's right. There were quite a few peeled strips on the
starboard side and a couple on the port. It's likely that the hull was
damaged beyond repair, even though it looked handsome before the
crunching started.
The laughter was disconcerting to me. This is not something I would
have wanted to watch, at least not done in this manner. If I had a
hull that had to be destroyed, I'd probably want to buy a bunch of
Sawzall blades or a chain saw and do it myself. Somehow it seems more
respectful.
