Patrick,
The Cal 40 that dismasted is named "Odin". I don't know who the owner is, but I have seen the same boat in the Abacos for the regatta. When Odin arrived at the dock, the mast was folded towards the starboard side. At the scene of the failure, the crew recovered all of the rigging and secured the spinnaker pole from the remaining mast section to the part that folded over. It looked somewhat like the letter "A" on an angle, with the masthead about three feet out of the water. I watched the crew use a ladder to hacksaw the mast and lower the free section to the dock. I was later told by one of the crew that through the ordeal that neither the spinnaker nor the main sail was damaged.

Congrats Michael, sounds like a great race.
Which Cal 40 had the struggles? Heartfelt sympathy for the loss of a mast. Always hate to see a fellow sailor go through that.
