CABD0056D686
Translates as:
CAB = CAL Boats
D = 28 (aka: 28-2)
0056 is your Class# in other words, you have the 56th CAL 28 built (also
known as Hull# or Sail#)
D6 = Manufacture date: D = April, 6 = 1986
86 = Model year, in this case 1986.
This HIN used the updated format introduced with the 1984 Model year.
Older (1973-83) CALs will have a format such as CABxhhhhMyym (x = model,
hhhh = Hull#, Myy = Model Year, m = month of manufacture- where A = Aug,
B = Sept. etc) or CABxhhhhmmyy (mm = Month of manufacture, yy = year of
manufacture.)

I own Water Lily, a Cal 28 from 1986.
I will like to know the meaning of the characters in the hull#.
My hull # is CABD0056D686
I could deduct clearly the meaning of the last two characters, what about
the rest?

Wow!! Excelent! Thank you very much. So if I'm going to use this number as the reference to have it printed in the sails for regatta purpuses, my number will be PUR056, right?
