Mark, I was lucky when I redid mine. I removed the strut under water, sent it off to Martec to duplicate. When I got it back I pulled the boat, reinstalled the strut onto the shaft. Put in the screws, gooped it up and tightened everything down, I spun the shaft as I thightened it to make sure it didn't bind. When we put the boat back into the water, I reached down and spun the shaft and it moved without and binding. So I didn't have to redo the engine mounts. My only issue is, the new strut is corroding very fast. Martec won't let the diver drill a hole to mount the zinc, that is where mine broke. I am no longer wired to the dock, I use a couple of 15 watt solar panels from Harbor Frieght to charge my batteries and only plug the boat in when I have to run something 110 AC. If I have to leave it plugged in the future, I will run a wire from the mounting screws to a Zinc and drop over the side. Notice that the yard has epoxy vertical 2x4's to the hull to carry a horizontal with a notch cut for shaft. The 2x4's were also epoxy to the ground. Is this the standard of care for the alignment of a Cal 29 shaft and strut? My Mk III-34's Paragon has a nut w/out that cotter pin. I have backed that set nut off and adjusted gear two teeth clockwise. It then shifts into forward just as smooth as butta but provides virtually no forward power to prop. Reverse works flawlessly all the time. Once adjusted back one click, I get pretty much same result: no power. It's a thriling test in a breezy, tight fairway. Once adjusted back to the original position, which SEEMS to be the last adjustment in that direction, and it takes The Govenator to shift it into forward. At this point the engine vibrates badly. I've got this nagging feeling this trannie needs a rebuild after all. And as for for Charlies gloating about his outboard: "I'll race you to Hawaii!" cheers, Dan From: Cal_Boats@yahoogrou ps.com [mailto:Cal_Boats@yahoogrou ps.com] On > Behalf Of Tom Vandiver > Sent: Sunday, May 10, 2009 9:48 AM > To: Cal_Boats@yahoogrou ps.com > Subject: Re: [Cal_Boats] Paragon SAOV manual > Check www.marinegears. com for manual. > This gear is fairly easily adjustable in forward.
