Mike, Funny you should bring that up. I belong to the Jackson Park Yacht Club; founded in 1896. We are the closest yc to where Obama lives, Hyde Park, many of our members are University of Chicago faculty, many of our members live in Hyde Park. We are a very diverse club, about 50-50 black & white, We have boats that seriously race, and those that club race. We usually have a half dozen boats in the Mac Race every year. We have a nice little clubhouse, we have a steward that steps masts. We are the organizing authority for 3 LMSRF races during the season.. We're the perfect place for an "Obama Sail". Not only that, one of my friends, who is a kick-ass sailor on a Pearson 30 is also a Tuskegee Airman. Jack could show him how to sail! Mike, The clubhouse is on the east side of the harbor, opposite the old CG station, which has been rehabbed and now is the harbormaster's office. They have installed floating docks, which displaced about 3/4 of the floating moorings. The address is 6400 S. Promontory Dr. Do a google earth search. It'll even show how much the harbor has shoaled, but that's another story. Website is www.jacksonparkyachtclub.org. Hi all, We have a 1 year old Portugese Water Dog named "Barley". It was a deal I had to make to get the boat. My wife gets the dog she wanted and I was finally able to buy a boat. He took to the boat like an old salt, hiking out on the high side with every tack. Very energetic dog that will even outlast the energizer bunny, lots of work to keep out of trouble, but a great boat dog.
