Scott, I upsized the standing rigging on Magic (Cal 2-27)... It gives me peace of mind. However, the guys at RO initially felt my stock wire size was sufficient given the rig dimension and displacement. But, I persisted and they found a solution. Of course hindsight is 20/20 and I know now that the 27 Steve wrote about was a 2-27 (6700# displacement) I'm sailing a original 27 at 5400# displacement. So, I may have over-reacted and maybe did not need to super-size my rigging. However, the cost difference of a size up is really quite small. The tricky thing is finding the correct studs, pins, and tangs to make the whole thing come together. I trust them. My first season with this boat, I had a local shop duplicate the standing rigging. The "rigger" was not fluent in English. Maybe this matters, maybe not. I know he did not sail. I do not think he had the knowledge of materials, working loads, sheer strengths, etc... the guys at Rigging Only do. I also replaced my turnbuckles with Garhauer and new aluminum spreaders from JSI. The integrity of my standing rigging is second only to the strength of the bolts that hold my keel on. I'm not sure where price figures into this.
