Kevin, If I made one trip up to the Channel Islands this summer....maybe before the Channel Islands to Marina del Rey Race, where should I go? Where is that big sea cave I've heard about...which island. I do have the Channel Islands cruising guide by the wiley UCSB Anthro Proffessor/x-solar customer of mine, may he rest in peace....somewhere in my apt. To: Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com Date: Tuesday, May 26, 2009, 9:03 AM hey kevin, this weekend was great weather and lots of fun out at santa cruz island.. we stayed at yellow banks the first night and then headed over to coches till monday.it was pretty crowded though.. i havnt seen that many boats around the islands in my short time sailing...it was however, perfect.. i have made the trip to catalina from channel islands harbor, two times now.... it is a long haul.. 12 hours is the norm though...but i have to say, the north west islands are way more fun for me.. a short 4 hour sail to the yellow banks..you got everything except moorings and overpriced restauran ts..catalina is two crowded and over developed for my taste... and they have no good surfing.. just one crappy spot on the south side that hardly ever breaks properly.. i spent a week on catalina last year, scouting around the whole island for a job i was working on..it was cool to learn a lot of the history of the place and see some of the "secret spots" from the locals..but all in all, it is what it is... santa cruz, annacapa and santa rosa islands, seem much more mysterious and exciting to me..i could spend many years exploring these places.... heck, they even have a giant sea cave you can kayak into...what more could you ask for... cheers eric jacksonBAREFOOT1971 CAL 29 CHANNEL ISLANDS CA.

jerry, i think your asking me and not kevin... as kevin is in vegas.. where does the race start at or end at (channel islands)? if its santa cruz island, then you should either hit pelicans on the north side or coches on the south side.. those are my two favorite spots.. also the yellow banks/ smugglers is also one of the best anchorages you can find.. that place is huge and has lots of room to be away from other boats... the sea cave is also on santa cruz island.. here is a clip from the park service website.. One of the largest and deepest sea caves in the world, Painted Cave, is found on the northwest coastline of Santa Cruz. Named because of its colorful rock types, lichens, and algaes, Painted Cave is nearly a quarter-mile long and 100 feet wide, with an entrance ceiling of 160 feet and a waterfall over this entrance in the spring. and if your into kayaking around some cool sea caves then here is a great website to get you to some great ones.. http://www.cccarto.com/santacruz/index.html?COL=1+ROW=0+ZOOM=b+GPSX=-1 +GPSY=-1 cheers eric jackson BAREFOOT 1971 CAL 29 CHANNEL ISLANDS CA. Jerry, I'll jump in with one of many answers you should receive -- and a question. First the question -- Has Brian Fagan passed? I hadn't heard anything, though his beautiful little cold molded day sailor is for sale in the harbor. I am lusting over it for $15K. Second -- most accessible to you and undoubtedly the most pleasant and anchorage-rich Island is Santa Cruz. The large cave is called "Painted Cave" and it is on the "north" side of the Island towards the "west" end. Some of the other anchorages -- such as Fry's also have smaller sea caves.
