Cal 20 cockpit drains

Good Afternoon, On the two Cal20's that I've seen, the cockpit drain starts as a shallow rounded groove near the rear third of the cockpit floor leading to a small (1/2 to 3/4") hole through the wall of the outboard motor well and drains straight into that opening. Both of the Cals are unmodified with regards to the outboard motor well. I use the well on mine, and my solution to the sloshing water issue while under sail was to take a piece of dock flotation foam and trim it to fit inside the well (no fleet racing here). The foam is probably six or seven inches thick. I made a collar out of 3/4 inch plywood which fits around the outside of the outboard well and then screwed a piece of marine 1/4" plywood, measured to cover the motor well area, across the top surface of the collar. This creates a flat space on top of the motor well, holds down the foam, and does a pretty good job of keeping the water out. If the bay is really choppy, I may have to keep one foot on the lid to keep it firmly in place. There is still room between the foam and the motor well walls for the cockpit drain to still work. Take the cover off, remove the foam, and I'm ready to put the outboard in. I have a piece os squishy foam for use with the outboard... That's the story from Narragansett Bay.
