I'm sure Brenda and I would attend if possible, but we are in southeast Florida, and I don't think there are many Cals in our area.

I don't think there has been a "Caltopia" type Cal rendezvous in the east. I would certainly participate in such an event. Would other East Coast Cal-addicts participate? It would be interesting to get an interest poll.

Yes, the big question is "Where?" The Bay of Fundy might make it real
interesting.
We have a lot of CALs in the Chesapeake, but our "Caltopia" is called
the "Good Old Boat Regatta" in October. We've had 25, 27, 28, 29, 2-30,
31, 34, 36, and 40. This area is short on CAL 20s for some reason.

Paul, the spirit of the Good Old Boat Regatta says we can assemble any
kind of fleet we want. (After all, we make up our own rules.) A
manufacturer fleet would be fine. All CALs. The CAL 25s run a one
design and the CAL 29s used to, but the other CALs run mostly in "fin
keel" divisions right now.

Boats have to be 25 years old to be considered "old" don't they?
Are you one of the organizers?? Are there enough boats that if we did a Cal only race that other would still be able to have a decent race?

CALTOPIA East and the GOBR
Husar, Charlie [USA]2009-06-12 00:56 UTC
Hi, All. Our rule in the Good Old Boat Regatta (GOBR as we say) is that
the first keel of the type had to be built no later than 1975. We have
not changed that in 10 years. The reason is that the first J/24 came
out in 1977. We are trying to avoid the skinny keel canoe bottom crowd.
Cheers

We do a L-36 only class start in our two old boat (you guys are not old
enough for this one) and there are 4 of us. It is more than enough. I only
takes two competitive boats to make a race.
By the way, I entered my first beer can race Tuesday at our local yacht
club. My 1956 Lapworth was first to finish and first corrected! The only
boat we "raced" was a Benetear 35.5, which we beat by about a minute
uncorrected. He has a 126 handicap and up here the L-36 has a 150 handicap.
We were the oldest boat in the race.
