Mike: "I later took the engine box lid off and found that both screws holding the shift cable clamp to the engine block had fallen out. One looked as though it had happened some time before." That's apparently what happened here; the wood screws on a bracket worked free of their mounting block. The bracket is back in place - held by larger screws - and Jambalaya now has a new docking protocol: test reverse before making the turn to the alley. Alfred
