George,
I called Tom at Kent sails and he gave me several options to choose from. He priced a NEW Dacron sail at about $1,300 delivered to me in Oregon- two reef points with Cal 28 insignia. He said will take about ten days from date of order and I will be set !!
Thank you for your help.. he gave me discount when explained I lived off ten mile in St. Clair Shores,Mich.... truly a wonderful place to be if ya love boats.
So thanks a bunch, hope to return the favor... if you need a really nice main cover let me know and I will hook you up with a guy that custom made me one for under $200.00 delivered...much better than west marine $350.00 one!
Thanks again-smooth sailing to you and your crew,
Steve Pishioneri

I have a '67 25 and the sails they built for me have gotten me a few first place finishes and on top of it, they are priced very afrfordably. I couldn't have afforded a new set other wise.

I am looking for a "new"(?) mainsail for my 1966 28' flat top.. any help on good source? Also thinking of buying a jib.I bought a 185 Genoa from Minneys in California, not to happy with it so prefer deal with different company and perhaps buy something closer to new.... would prefer Cal28 insignia on mainsail.I am up here in beautiful Oregon so if it close to Eugene I'll come take a look at it.
Thanks to all,
Steve

Reef Points

Please do not take this advice, but this is what I have been doing with my 3 new mains over the past 27 years.
Please remember that in those 27 years the boat has only spent about one month out of the relatively mild SoCal area.
The proportions will be different on other Cal's, but my reefs have been set at 3' above the boom (40' hoist on the Cal-40).
In all of that time, that "short" reef point has been all we have needed.
In all of that time, the standard reef point (at about 6') would have been too much.
