"would like to see the photos of that area opened up with the beam showing?" I'm not clear on how Yahoo! Groups is handling attachments, but I've attached a zip file of photos from our Pentaquod project, which includes the new beam in place. As you'll see, we removed the head/hanging locker pan to gain access from the front, as opposed to Wilkie's approach from the rear. I have not included annotations, but would be happy to provide more detail if desired. Alfred Poor 1973 Tartan 34C #288 "Jambalaya"

saw them thanks , that is an ugly piece .. Looks like a big project .. I'll keep it on the list ... It's been there 30 years now .. and I am aware of it .. To bad they did spend that extra $10 on stainless steel .. are you going to replace it with SS or build something new ? And it was Alfred Poor and Roger Jones who furnished the photos and advice that encouraged me to dive into the beam project. I have seen the photo , mine is done , still have a little gel coat to mess with .I had photos posted some time back .. It made a big differance in sailing and motoring . Getting on and off the boat is nice . My concern was getting back on the boat , if I ever hit the water .. The support beam .. When I get to that . mine will be a fiberglass type of beam . no rust . thanks for the photos .. Michael asked about the remains of our "dreaded beam": "Do you by chance still have the old one?" No I don't - that project was eight years ago - but I believe that the mechanical drawings that Roger Jones made of the beam are posted on several places on the Web. I've also attached my copy of the file to this message. Alfred Poor 1973 Tartan 34C #288 "Jambalaya"

Thanks for the drawing .. how close was that base and radius to the real hull .. ? I am sure filler could be added to take up what ever voids there are ..maybe some grinding and a drain could be cut and opened at install .. The strength ,, 10 Gage SS . Is that all the thicker the original was .. with the top and bottom tabs same material ?? I know you mentioned bending the top tab .. A fiberglass structure can be made as strong . or stronger ... Thanks ..
