Cal 39 Displacements
pw… [at] aol.com2009-08-27 07:46 UTC
Does anyone know what changes were made to the Cal 39 that resulted in a
4600lb weight gain from 14,400 to 19,000 lbs? Our '80 MK lll is noted as
having a displacement of 19K when earlier models were 14, 400lbs,
Mine may be another displacement altogether as it was a one-off boat show
model with a tweener draft of 6'.
Just curious -

Paul,
I have the marketing brochure for the Mk2 and Mk3 and both show a displacement of 17,000 lbs. I also have a copy of Lapworth's plans for the Mk2 dated 3 September 1976 and they list displacement of 17,000 lbs. Where are you getting these other numbers?
Regards,
Wayne

Wayne, highest weight on Bacon Sails is 17500. Lowest is 14600. Hunt boats a little heavier than the heaviest Lapworth.
