Chris, I knew I liked you! Your description of having a neat boat..... but not so neat house sounds awful familiar! I remember seeing a t-shirt advertised in GOOD OLD BOAT that showed a run-down looking house and underneath was the caption, "But my boat is immaculate!". Well ,my boat might never be classified as immaculately clean....... but, like you... everything has a place on my boat, and everything is (usually!) in it's place. In my house, well the living room/dining room/kitchen are "clean" right now (I had company on Sunday afternoon, had to clean those rooms!) but my upstairs office and bedroom each have a pathway to walk where I need to go! My basement is only slightly better, it is amazing that I can actually do a pretty good job varnishing parts of my boat each Spring without having dust land on them! Well ,one secret is that I varnish just before going to bed, that way I'm not walking above the fresh varnish and shaking dust loose. Remember that picture of Bill Lapworth standing in his office that Roger Jones posted a few years ago? Well, that looked about as neat as my house! I think the secret to our boats is that living in Northern climates, we strip all the gear off the boat each Fall at haulout time, prevents the build-up of "stuff" that accumulates in our houses! Not a bad deal for $300. Needs some TLC, at least, but she looks sound. I note that the sail no. is in the one thousands, and my #1220 is a 1967, so if those sail nos. are correct, the boat is older than mine. But why would somebody want their Cal 20 to look like a pumpkin? And why do people just fling stuff in a big wet mound down below? Maybe I'm just a neat freak when it comes to boats (certainly not when it comes to houses!), but I like order and organization when it comes to boats. My house won't sink if I just have a pathway through the stuff, but on a boat I depend on things to be orderly for safety purposes. I'd have a neat boat even if it were floating out there on the mooring right now. And sitting on her trailer she's pretty orderly now too. Just an obsession of mine, but luckily it's also considered good seamanship! Chris > >

Plus it seams when one thing is out of place it feels cluttered. My son he's ten he can destroy that boat in minutes any loose line could have GI Joes hanging from it. Oh well gotta let him have fun to.
