Hatch

Jeffrey owen2009-11-24 14:27 UTC
Good morning: Tanks to all for the advice on the keel! I'm looking for a deck hatch for the v-berth. Cut out size is 24" x 24". For what I have seen so far, neither Bowmar or Lewmar make it in that size. If anyone can send me in the right direction, either for a new or in-good-condition second hand, I'd really appreciate it. Best regards to all. Jeff '72 Cal 33

The " 24"x24" hatch has a cut out size of 24-11/16" x 24-11/16" It is a standard Lewmar Ocean 70. It is readily available at West Marine and others for @ $900. I got it for around $600 using my Port Supply account - if this size works, you might search the internet. Lewmar Ocean 70[http://images.westmarine.com/full/530972.jpg]<http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/producte/10001/-1/10001/189346/377%20710%201042/712/hatches/Primary%20Search/mode%20matchallpartial/0/WMPrice%7C1?N=377%20710%201042&Ne=712&Ntt=hatches&Ntk=Primary%20Search&Ntx=mode%20matchallpartial&N#> I was able to open up our (non stock) Vee Berth deck opening (22"x22") to fit the hatch by moving the underside beam 4" forward. I then had to make an epoxy curb as the deck is curved, to fit the hatch to a flat surface. West Systems six-10 is a great product for doing something like that, it is a premixed epoxy "gel" that squirts out of a standard caulking gun. If you need a custom hatch made exactly to your dimensions, it is possible.. but may take a little work and time. Or you may try this link - I believe they have a standard cut-out hatch your size, and may make custom sizes http://tinyurl.com/ykaufc4 [http://www.manshipmarine.com/images/stories/test/lab1.png]<javascript:;> [http://www.manshipmarine.com/images/stories/test/lab2.png] <javascript:;> [http://www.manshipmarine.com/images/stories/test/lab3.png] <javascript:;> [http://www.manshipmarine.com/images/stories/test/m1.jpg] INSIDE OPENING Part No. Size CUTOUT SIZE OVERALL ACRYLIC THICKNESS WEIGHT A B C D [http://www.manshipmarine.com/images/stories/cad.PNG]LDH-08-I<http://www.manshipmarine.com/images/stories/dwg/LDH-08-1.dwg> 8-1/8x13-3/4 206x349 8-1/8 206 13-3/4 349 105/8 270 16-1/4 413 1/2 12 3.5KG [http://www.manshipmarine.com/images/stories/cad.PNG]LDH-10-I <http://www.manshipmarine.com/images/stories/dwg/LDH-10-1.dwg> 10x10 254x354 10 254 10 254 122/1 318 12-1/2 318 1/2 12 3.5KG [http://www.manshipmarine.com/images/stories/cad.PNG]LDH-20-I <http://www.manshipmarine.com/images/stories/dwg/LDH-20-I.dwg> 12-1/2x17-1/2 318x444 12-1/2 318 17-1/2 444 15 382 20 508 1/2 12 5.6KG [http://www.manshipmarine.com/images/stories/cad.PNG]LDH-30-I <http://www.manshipmarine.com/images/stories/dwg/LDH-30-I.dwg> 14-1/2x19-1/2 369x495 14-1/2 369 19-1/2 495 17 433 22 559 1/2 12 7.4KG [http://www.manshipmarine.com/images/stories/cad.PNG]LDH-40-I <http://www.manshipmarine.com/images/stories/dwg/LDH-40-I.dwg> 16-1/2x16-1/2 419x419 16-1/2 419 16-1/2 419 19 483 19 483 1/2 12 7.0KG [http://www.manshipmarine.com/images/stories/cad.PNG]LDH-50-I <http://www.manshipmarine.com/images/stories/dwg/LDH-50-I.dwg> 19-1/2x19-1/2 495x495 19-1/2 495 19-1/2 495 22 559 22 559 1/2 12 9.5KG [http://www.manshipmarine.com/images/stories/cad.PNG]LDH-60-I <http://www.manshipmarine.com/images/stories/dwg/LDH-60-I.dwg> 24x24 610x610 24 610 24 610 26-1/2 674 26-1/2 674 1/2 12 13.2KG [http://www.manshipmarine.com/images/stories/cad.PNG]LDH-70-I <http://www.manshipmarine.com/images/stories/dwg/LDH-70-I.dwg> 31x31 788x788 31 788 31 788 33-1/2 852 33-1/2 652 1/2 12 19.4KG IN/NM From: Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com [mailto:Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of Jeffrey owen Sent: Tuesday, November 24, 2009 2:27 PM To: Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com Subject: [Cal_Boats] Hatch Good morning: Tanks to all for the advice on the keel! Hello Everyone, Here are some photos of our recent race. We took 1st place in the first race and 2nd place overall. What a "Chamber of Commerce Day" it was out on the water! GSC Regatta Photos --Michael-- s/v Magic, 1979 Cal 2-27 Pompano Beach, FL

congrats - nice shots! I 'specially like the figure 8 black spinnaker behind you! looks too warm, but a little lumpy out there. dEmO From: Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com [mailto:Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of Michael D Sent: Tuesday, November 24, 2009 3:36 PM To: Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com Subject: [Cal_Boats] 2009 GSC Regatta Hello Everyone, Here are some photos of our recent race. Some of us are under grey skies and waiting for the water to turn solid. There is one local boat still sailing--my evening walk takes me up our tallest hill in the city, overlooking our bay, and there was one boat out on Sunday. Ahoy Chris, Take a vacation. Come on down to south FL. We'll get Magic out on the water, drink some beer and/or rum, smoke a cigar, and tell lies. --Michael-- --- On Tue, 11/24/09, Chris Campbell <cl… [at] charterinternet.com> wrote: From: Chris Campbell <cl… [at] charterinternet.com> Subject: Re: [Cal_Boats] 2009 GSC Regatta To: Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com Date: Tuesday, November 24, 2009, 11:04 AM Michael D wrote: Hello Everyone, Here are some photos of our recent race.
