Another Fine Day Out
Here in the Pacific Northwest we are not troubled by any of that
sunshine stuff, but it was not raining, and the breeze was moderate.
I passed on sailing yesterday because it was blowing pretty good.
Today however was just fine. I removed my singularly ugly brown
plastic cover and motored the Nemesis out onto the Puget Sound.
Hoisting the jib and unwinding the headsail gave me 3-4 knots, so I
headed off the wind to Dash Point, a 5 mile crossing of the mouth of
Commencement Bay. The wind died for a few minutes, then recovered
enough to put me back into the 4's. There weren't a lot of sailboats
out today, although Jack Rabbit's crew was out practicing for next
weekend's Winter Vashon Race, a 30 mile circumnavigation of Vashon
Island that can b e anything from a drifter to 35 knots of snow. I
saw a J35 heading North, probably for Des Moines, a couple of boats
going in and out of Quartermaster Harbor, and a couple of more in
transit to Gig Harbor, but all in all, not much activity. I actually
saw 5+ knots on my way back to TYC.I was back on the dock by 4:00,
which is approaching dusk at this time of year. Nemesis is back under
her cover, and I am home and ready for dinner with the family.
Life is good
