Ventura Sailing Club hosts the annual Wild Turkey Classic Plastic. This year’s race was for boats 1989 and older.
After Saturdays blow out, winds 25 plus and seas over 11ft, VSC decided to reschedule the race the next day. Sunday ended up being beautiful, VSC sent us on a 12 mile course, seas 5-8 ft, 13 seconds apart, winds variable 10 knots or less.
18 boats showed up, competing for the right of the classic plastic awards. Awards were given for the 1st boat in each year and for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in Spin and Non Spin class.
Wainui; a Cal 48, finished 1st place in the Spinnaker class and Out Patient; a CAL 2-29 finished 1st in the Non Spin class. Zuma Jay; a CAL 25, finished 3rd in non spin and 2 other CAL’s finished, CAL 34’s; Allegria; a CAL 3-34 took 7th and Sea Bird; a CAL 34 finished in her first race on the Channel Islands waters.
