I agree with trimming the messages but I would like to point out that Gmail closes the old parts of the message for you and keeps the threads together so you only see one header in the folder until you open the message, they you see the ones you have not read with the ones you have read still header only. The header has the author and first few words of the message. You can get the messages one at a time and have them go to a CAL folder automatically so they don't clog up your inbox. Best to all.
