FYI Cal 25 FS, Santa Barbara, $1000 and Footloose E-P update
Kirk Grier2009-12-14 08:42 UTC
Greetings Cal Folks,
Just an FYI on a Cal 25 for sale in Santa Barbara, seen on Craigslist
... http://santabarbara.craigslist.org/boa/1507119238.html
And for those curious on my electric propulsion project, I'm in the home
stretch. Footloose has her Electric Yacht 130ib installed along with the
283Ah, 48V battery bank, and 25A48V AC charger. I just fabricated a
pedestal mount of sorts for the throttle quadrant. Pix of quadrant,
motor and batt box attached. And a before shot of the engine bed area.
Next is the battery cables and wiring it all up. Without a doubt the
biggest effort so far, by far, was cleaning up 30 years of diesel engine
mess, esp in the deep bilge that the 34 has.

Hi Marsh,
Initially I will charge via the AC charger, from shore power and then powered
from a Honda 2000 while at anchor, if necessary. This is how many others do it
as well. Eventually I'd like to add a wind charger. There is also regen
capability on the 130ib, though of course you must be sailing (or anchored in
a heck of a tidal flow), and that will cost one boat speed. I don't expect to
need to recharge on my weekend trips to the Channel Islands though.
