I hear you, let's rate the hull speed at saayyyy, .2 kts
It is sad to say, but I have seen a few boats down here in the Caribbean as neglected as this Benneteau, I think it is
Hideous, to say the very least!

Jeff, you win the prize. This is the keel of a 323 Beneteau, that the owner apparently didn't love. A friend sent this to me from Florida. Is that dispicable or what? Though it is a beneteau, and I would never, ever have one, they need love too!

Jeff, where in the Caribe are you? Gina and I spent 2 years in the DR after selling a software company in 2005.... At times, and especially with what is occuring here in our country today, we are strongly considering going back down, and in the not too distant future...

Charles:
I am in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. On the northwest corner of Puerto Rico. I travel about quite a bit for business, DR included. I have quite a few friends that have moved to Rincón, or who have apts and spend their winter months down here to get away from the cold weather.
There is a marina about 35 minutes from here, in Cabo Rojo, and new slips made of concrete are currntly being built to replace the old wooden. Anyway, it's a good place to be. If you and Gina want to check it out, you can fly straight to Aguadilla airport (BQN). From there, there is a Dominican airline that does a couple of flight a day to the DR.
Let me know if you are in the area, I'll be happy to show you around. It is easy to get spolied down here!

Are you guys nuts? I was out on my X-C skis on Saturday, temps at 17°
F., sunny and nice blue sky, snow all over. I just love January in
Michigan. You can have November and December, the gray and gloomy
months, but when January comes it's lovely. Who'd want to escape it?

Having spent MANY years in Colorado, I agree with you, although in Colorado, I never wanted to leave....but duty called. Stll have our house near Winter Park, and we go several times a year.... When we go, I still, never want to leave!
Now about the COLD here on the east coast....I have never wanted to leave so badly from anywhere this time of year...

Try being stuck in Rock Hall on a Call 29 in 4 inches of ice. Rumor has it I
can hire one of the waterman to break me free, but then where. The entire
east coast this winter is a friggen fridge and sailing in 34 degree water is
not that healthy nor my idea of fun. Marathon FL was the destination and
still is, just a bit delayed...:) Next time I will bring my cross country
skis ala Chris C.
Sure is nice countryside though and learning what the eastern shore has to
offer. Reminds me a lot of S. Ontario in terms of landscape. Lush farmland
interspersed with bush and forest landscapes. Duck hunting seems to be the
sport of the month with two blinds on the other side of the bay. Scared the
by-jimmeny outta me last Sunday morning at sun up as no one uses those as
they are on private land. Sure did however just shortly after sunrise.
Best regards
/ch

Chris,
I'm with you, I'm driving to Ironwood next Monday for 3 days in the UP. In Feb I'm going to Minnesota and New Hampshire. I pick up my skinny skis tomorrow at REI, I'm lazy, I let them tune them up. We're going to the Porkies next Tuesday. Can't wait. I last visited the boat 2 days before Christmas, took the yard guys some bottled cheer. They like getting company during the winter. I'm in a small, family run yard, and they have become friends.
Regards,
David Dobbs, Cal29 411

Wow, I'm jealous. Winter is really fun when it finally sets in
seriously. We just don't want the rest of the world to know too much
about the U.P.
It helps when the folks at the boatyard know you like your boat.
They're more protective. My other boat, the 1961 Seafarer, is a rarity
at the yard where she lives--old, pretty, with varnished mahogany-- so
when it's launch time we usually have all the employees helping.
Sometimes the boss has to chase a few away so we have elbow room. The
other day the guy who hauls the Cal 20 saw me plodding out to rake snow
off her cover. He knows I'm attentive and that puts me in the category
of the good owners.
