Re: [Cal_Boats] free boat(????)
When you build something . . . essentially from parts you pay markup and
taxes on every single thing you buy. Then if you put a value on the time
spent searching for, purchasing and installing the parts that just adds to
the cost. That said, it allows you to spread the cost out over time, learn
the boat and get the satisfaction of doing the work yourself.

When I got Shpritz one of the well to do boat brokers at Anacappa Marine
said to me: "The most expensive boat you can get may be one that someone
gives you for free". I said uh-huh.I hadn't a clue what she meant, but two
months later, still there at the boat yard, I began to comprehend what she
meant. Then they taught me what what one "boat buck" was. A thou.

It was an inheritance, not a gift. I buy paint and epoxy by the gallon.
Painting the mast is next. I better lose some weight before I do that or I
am going to be seriously worn out. :-)

A wise person once told me that there is no such thing as a free boat. I
got my boat for free, $150,000 ago.
