Maryland Boating Legislation

It is not my intention to get initiate one of those obnoxious threads we have seen in the past. However, this link was sent to me buy the Corinthians (we have an Annapolis Fleet) and since many of you sail in the Chesapeake I thought it might be of some interest to you if you are not already aware of it. I make no comment on the issue but am simply passing along the info. Please don't kill the messenger or wear out all the rest who really don't care. http://forums.catalina.sailboatowners.com/showthread.php?t=115856

Do you happen to know how it went in RI? In California you can discharge waste if you are more than three miles off shore. I would assume this is the case for RI. since it is a federal regulation. Therefore, by what right would they enforce the requirement to seal your discharge valve? Obviously nobody thinks sewage should be dumped so I guess the issue here is that the RI folks don't like the Type II devices or don't think they work or just know as much as I did about what they are before I Googled them just now. The law sounds great until you read some of the Type II literature. I am too stupid to have an opinion on this but thanks for the link. I found a Cal 2-29 for sale on Mercer Island (Seattle) a number of years ago. The seller was all fired up about the value of the Electra- San until I provided him with documentation that showed it was illegal to discharge from in the Puget Sound. Same type of no-tolerance legislation as proposed ..... If I recall correctly, it was not illegal to use a 5 gallon bucket and dump it overboard, but that may have been urban myth. All, recieved this from an inquiry that I sent to Rick, a friend, and one of our Delegates here in Maryland. BTW, I sent this from the Catalina List to several of our local delegates. Rick always responds.... See below from his office. Whoever sent the orginal message from the Catalina List, please feel free to share this response back with them. this is the link to the bill I think you are talking about. House Bill 1257 (HB1257) is crossfiled with Senate bill 513 (SB513), and has not been heard in either Senate or House committee. So there is time to get yourselves together and come to Annapolis to testify against these bills. If you go to the link, you will be able to find the details you need. If you need help finding the information, please contact my office again. (Our website is not exactly user-friendly.) My aide will be glad to help you - Georgeann, 410-841-3334. I have not had time to look into this bill, but I would not be surprised to learn that it is unnecessarily restrictive and useless. Rick Impallaria Delegate, District 7 Point is, anyone with interest here on the Chesapeake, please heed the suggestion Rick makes above. Looks like we have some time, but anything we can do, in particularly collectively, may be helpful.
