Is there a listing with photos we can look at? I have an 80 Mk.ll with aft cabin and starboard galley. Is this your layout? What engine do you have? Tall or short rig, deep or shallow draft? Look close for soft decking. Vinyl wall covering hides leaks. Look close at mast step. Pull up as much sole as you can around it. Marinized VW. Engines ran hot get an engine survey by a mechanic. Good luck, PauL west Adventure kwest '80 Cal 39 cd… [at] yahoo.com wrote: >Hello all Cal owners, > >I am new to the group. Bruce, I have a couple of questions for you. First, are you getting an '84 Lapworth design or an '88 Hunt design? Big difference in the boats. Secondly, are you getting the boat from McMichaels? McMichaels is a stones throw from where I keep my boat and was the Cal dealer (back in '82/'83) who sold her to the original owner. I actually thought you were on the West coast. If the McMichaels listing was only an example you need to be aware that there was a radical change in the boats about '85/'86. If you are looking at an '84 it is likely a Mk 3. Take a look at http://www.cal39.info/nica/cal39nica.html for an interior picture. Unfortunately none of us has put up a good pic of the cabin. If you look here http://www.cal39.info/mk3pg4.PDF and here http://www.cal39.info/mk3pg3.PDF you will see the layout of the standard Mk 3 interior. The line drawing at http://www.cal39.info/cal39mk3.html shows the Mk3 with the optional head in the aft cabin. Adding the head removes the nav station. If you have pix of the boat you are considering send them along. Also, look at the Roster at http://www.cal39.info/cal39roster.html and see if the HIN is listed. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. Also, if you do ultimately choose a Lapworth Cal 39 let me know and I will put up a boat info page for you at www.cal39.info.
