Wayne, I had to destroy my sleeve when I switched out. If you have time and patience anti-bond works but it tales a lot of time and you have to keep scoring the sealant which wont be that easy with a thru Hull.

Wayne are you installing tack tick?
When I did mine I was replacing old datamarine with raymarine and the sleeves were the same outer diameter but different inner diameters.

Paul,
You bet your life I'm installing Tacktick! Wouldn't use anything else.
The TackTick systems use Airmar depth/speed transducers. I am replacing Signet Marine knot log and depth sounder, and Datamarine wind indicator. I didn't try the new transducers in the old sleeves. My concern with using the old sleeves, if that is what you were suggesting, is that everything might appear to fit but I would find that I had leaks only after the boat was in the water. I just want to get the old ones out and the new ones in without having to cut yet another hole in the hull.
The reason I am trying to preserve the sleeve is so someone else might be able to use the systems. They are not dead I just want to move into the 21st century.
Regards,
Wayne

Wayne's save yourself the aggravation and don't worry about saving the sleeve. If anyone wants your old units that are likely replacing not installing as new equipment. What you will get for your old stuff wont pay for your even if you work for beer only.

On second thought, heat. Almost every material I can think of will soften
with heat. West System recommends heat to remove things bedded in epoxy.
Make a tool that is the same OD as the sleeve with and attach it to a
soldering iron. Maybe a small torch if it won't set your boat on fire. The
heat will soften the glue and it should come out. On the other hand, if it
is a press fit, drill it out and forget about it.

Disclaimer: Don't listen to me. It is your boat, not mine and I don't know
what I am talking about.

Please excuse my odd spelling and word choices. Still getting used to the hyper-sensitive touch screen and auto correct feature on my Droid phone. Drives me nuts.

OK - so I'll just sacrifice the sleeve by applying heat. I have an electric heat gun I can use. I think I will try that and see which melts first - the sealant or the sleeve or the boat! I am so much happier with above-the-waterline projects.
Thanks,
Wayne

Heat will cure that too, Paul. Put the heat gun to the Droid for a while till it turns into a gooey lump of plastic and silicon. You'll be happier in the end.
Cheers

Plastic sleeve? Don't you guys know boats are made of wood and metal?
My daddy always told me that salt water rots metal and fresh water rots wood
which is why they made boats out of wood and metal.
