Donald, Beer? Beer is good, but what about Champagne? CCCCCCCC Cal Catalina California Champagne Caper Convention Celebration Conclave? We haven't done such a thing in a Racoon's age. It used to be a bi-annual tradition, usually the mid April weekend before the Ensenada Race. Isn't Clovis a bit inland of the Sea? Champagne has always been a favorite ever since we christened our Cal. We have an ice bucket that is perfect for keeping a champagne bottle cold and upright on the cockpit sole! Clovis is, alas matey, quite inland and landlocked. We travel 200 miles to sail on San Fran Bay off of Alameda Island and, reluctantly, travel 200 miles home again. Why would you put grape juice in beer? Good beer should never have ANY fruit in it. I'll keep a bottle of gin cold for your juice! Donald, Champagne? Good Beer, grape juice, gin? If truth be told, we have had all manner of libations at previous CCCCCCCCCC's. I can remember one wherein the party retired at night fall, and I, having had a bit more libations that i should have (I was helping out by assisting in the recycling of a couple of big wine jugs by finish up the pesky last inch of so at the bottoms, and being in a salubrious mood, and not wanting to waste said good mood for the sake of righteous partying, got the grand idea to paddle my trusty one man Sevyor (ok, it wasn't a trusty, sea worthy Sevyor but an Asian tiger knock off) from Howlands down the coast two miles by myself to the Isthmus night club. Anyway, some members of the club decided I'd never make it, and snatched me up and spun me around in their outboard powered real rubber dingy, and towed me back to my boat. I woke up the next morning to find my little dinghy deflated and barely floating, having it's trusty armor plated hide of sturdy 30 mil vinyl penetrated (shredded) by my would be rescuers propeller. Well, yeah-yah, I guess I wouldn't have made it. Needless to say i was a mite unhappy and threatened to just swim there next time. It's not just freedom to hear thoughts we like. Of course, every reigning faction soon concludes that free speech should be limited when dissent arises. It makes for a lot of noise, but we can escape it by going sailing in our boats, at least as long as we've cleared the shipping channel and all the power boats with their loud stereos. Yes agree with the sentiment. But does not free speech imply responsible speech?, as these are rights that we have inherited from those who paid a high price to protect them? Its the debate thats currently going on at home here, free speech vs political correctness vs idiots. Case in point, when whats he name, the blonde conservative came up north, she was politely reminded that hate legislation is different in Canada then the States (something that I completely disagree with at a university setting) and that she may be liable for her remarks. My response to all this is dig deeper into what the 29 needs to get her ready to come home and start planing what the 20 needs for a full rehab...:) Nothing like messing on boats when the world gets silly. /ch
