today was about as good as it gets on the Intracoastal Waterway. wind from the Stbd. quarter, pushing us along averaging over 6 mph (statute miles on the ICW), with only our 90% roller furling jib out, 3 blade fixed propellor locked, towing the lite dinghy, for over 40 miles. They say you cannot sail the ICW. Well, sometimes the wind is behind you. At one point another sailboat came in behind us and tried to catch us with main and what looked like a 130 genoa, but never could and finally turned around and headed back. twas fun, sometimes 7.5 mph in our 41 year old coastal cruiser, and just relaxing. fueled up for the second time today. 16 gallons topped it off. We really didn't need it, but it was time to pump put after 2 1/2 weeks on the boat. This was the fuel used in motoring 3 long days into a headwind across the Okeechobee Waterway. We decided not to top up the starboard 40 gallon water tank since it isn't empty yet from when we started on 3/24 and we haven't even tapped the port tank yet. cold beer for me and wine for my bride, at anchor, before she made a delicious double batch of chili, extra for if/when we go offshore. unfortunately weather dictates we stay in the "ditch" for the next few days. too bad the tail wind won't hold. I tried a blog and wasn't smart enough to do it! all updatew will be to the CAL list until requested not to, and then to individual emails only. We tried to share the joy of this trip but nobody was foolish enough to accept crew positions for any or all of it! Reggie, Us working folks might not be able to take the time commitment needed to enjoy the trip with you, or maybe be with you too long (G) Please keep in contact, as you move thru the Carolinas. We are at Pierce creek north of at mile marker 180, if your plan is through the ICW and not off shore, let me know. We will try to arrange dockage if needed. On the ICW it is two days from Wilmington to Hobucken, and lots of great anchorages or marinas, we can provide local knowledge at least. If your plans take you offshore, we can help advise on the passable inlets on your journey too. See ya, and keep in touch! thanks, John. We'll be in touch as we had north. It is our intention to head offshore for at least part of the trip, if weather allows. Stopping every night is nice, but we cdan cover a lot more distance if we can sail nonstop for a couple days or more. Weather dictates. We missed a good weather window earlier this week by having to wait for parts and then do repairs.
