Our Cal 27 pop-top (1972) has #12 bare copper wire running from the shrouds (chain plates), pulpit, pushpit, , a keel bolt and all thru-hulls which all bond at the engine mount (Vire 6). This wire just lays on the inside of the hull. I have seen more than one boat struck by lightning, where the hull had hundreds of pinholes through the hull along wiring paths. In one marina, A sailboat got struck and settled from the pinhole leaks. The power boats on either side of her lost ALL of their electronics as well. I often wonder about the 'cone of protection' my sailing mentor once described... Dave Leasia 1972 Cal 27p-t #145 s/v Candy Cane Lake St. Clair, MI
