Wyatt,
Actually, my reply was an answer to a direct question and was completely on
topic. I am sure if you had seen this particular boat you would agree it
was UGLY. I was just describing how totally UGLY the boat was so that
people might know which boat I was talking about. Completely boating
related.
You are in Florida so you have probably not seen this boat.
Just for the record, I have nothing against the school CAL. I actually
applied to it and was accepted. It was my backup school. :-)

You must be speaking of Azure Cal 40 #72 owned by Rodney Pimentel.
He has theme spinnakers, one of which is a Cal Berkeley Bear Logo (below).. (the top picture has a smiley face.)
I'm certain his stick is not carbon (unless it's very recent)... just painted black... if this is the boat you are referencing.

My spinnaker was specifically designed with University of Delaware Blue and Gold as the colors of choice. We lived in Panama City, Florida where any GM dealer could order you a car painted, and pin-striped, in Florida Seminole Red and Gold -- right from the factory. I think that Cal 40 looks quite good in that color -- my daughter attends Mills College and has full rights to attend Berkeley as her academic needs require. She will be living aboard my Cal 33 on Alameda Island this summer while taking courses at Berkeley. Should we fly the spinnaker, we could easily be mistaken for a Cal Bear rather than a UD Blue Hen!

I don't see the bear logo but that might be the boat. Perhaps I just
assumed it was carbon because of the color, I can't really remember.
Actually, truth be told, it was a nice looking boat. I was impressed.
