You have my sympathies. Your story is making me have flashbacks to my days with an A30. (Post Traumatic Sailing Disorder?) I remember a weekend at Shilshole Marina, unable to move while we disassembled parts of the engine while my children were bored and frustrated. And another time, a Labor Day weekend, when my alternator fell off coming up the Narrows and we anchored in Gig Harbor. Next day, we sailed off our mooring and had major difficulty sailing out of the narrow harbor entrance against the current because of the heavy powerboat traffic. Long series of events like this led me to repower.
Hope you can get out and on your way. It is a beautiful week to be in the San Juans. I wish I was there this week myself. Good luck.

Thanks Terry, We secured the boat in Anacortes, unloaded, and came home last yesterday by car. The mechanics are going to pull the head on Monday to evaluate the engine and I'll find out more then. I'll be back at work this week so it will be tough to get back up there assuming it gets repaired, but between myself and my in-laws someone will be able to get it back home at some point. We are actually thinking about island hopping slowly over several weeks with different crew coming up periodically to use the boat before bringing it back to Everett. I hate to waste that long 43nm day by not visiting the islands while it's up there.
My wife mentioned that she'd be afraid to repower, that having as simple an engine as the A30 is a good thing when problems happen. No electrical required to run, etc. I see both sides of the argument though.
