CAL 29 Drawings
chris1232010-07-17 12:27 UTC
'Greets:
Ive decided to release the CAL-29 drawing a bit early (actually quite
late) as I'm heading out of town for a couple of days. There is one
issue and that is the main drawing that has Bill Lapworth's signature
on it which got damaged somewhere between Rock Hall and when I got the
drawings back from Staples. I remain clueless how this happened.
This drawing is taking hrs of work to remove the black smudges pixel
by pixel and work on that drawing continues and it will be re-release
once completed as singular update as that drawing is precious.
I would ask that those who download the drawing set to please consider
one of two options.
Option A: a financial contribution to Rogers favorite charity.
http://www.nvsailing.org/
and/or
Option B: take a kid sailing who is not an immediate family member,
with parental consent
I think this would be consistent with Rogers wishes and intend.
The package is almost 8 megs and available from my google docs
accounts. They are full scale pdf drawings as requested
The URL is
https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B5RAU5vfTL5JODIzODEwNjAtODA3ZC00NGFjLTk2YzMtZjY1OTEyN2RkNzAz&sort=name&layout=list&num=50
Please test the link and let me know if there are any issues as the
share settings may not work properly. Please post any issues to the
list and not my private account as I will be in transit and its easier
to fix stuff. One post, hay it doen
Best regards and thanks for your patience.

Anyone have these drawings for the original raised deck Cal 28?
Thanks for posting the drawings. Are you PhotoShopping? Don't forget the
"clone" tool.

No. Drawings were scanned at Staples...and Im pretty sure thats where the
master drawing got screwed up. But did not check handed them the tube which
I did not open since Rock Hall. The marks are generated by heat however
soooo...
The tool is gimp on linux. Explode a section, remove the pixels with the
eraser function then redoo all the lines so that they are nice and smooth,
pixel at a time. Takes time

Hay no problem. Get more out of this list then I ever give back, so a little
effort here and there is needed.
The only part that sucks big time, everyone will get a nice clean drawing
but I have the original with the original sig all smudged up. Really wanted
to put that under plastic and hang it on the wall. Still will as the sig is
original but its not as pretty as hoped or as when I received it.
Those types of marks are generated by heat not moisture and if you look at
the top of the drawing it looks like a finger print. Nothing I can do about
so just take it as it is. Its really nice to have that drawing set which was
originally bought by Les from Roger. So they even have a pedigree..:)
Best regards

Maybe the fingerprint is Bill Lapworth's?!

Regatta Time In Abaco
Michael D2010-07-19 16:01 UTC
All,
We took Magic to the Bahamas to participate/race at the 35th annual Regatta Time
In Abaco. We raced in the RTIA fleet (spinnaker), which consisted of a wide
variety of boats. We didn't bring home any hardware, but we had a lot of fun
and placed 5th overall. See http://regattatimeinabaco.com/Overall.pdf for full
results.
Lots of photos from our trip can be seen at

Cal 2-27 Swim Ladder

Hello All,
Magic's swim ladder is showing its age. I'm considering replacing it. Any
recommendations out there for an "off-the-shelf" unit?
Thanks,
Michael

A Gray whale breeched off Moro Bay and landed on a fishing boat, a couple of years ago, killing the fisherman.
Moral:
A breech a day keeps the fish hooks away?
On the other hand maybe it was just an accident.
I always thought whale watching was such innocent, safe fun.

Broken steel mast?
Looks to me like, steel hull, fiberglass dog house, aluminum mast. Ok, so
the rigging was probably steel, as in, stainless steel cable.
Remember,
most people become Journalism Majors because they've dropped out of/flunked out of being
English Majors, just as Science majors become Sociology Majors for the same reason (no wonder
modern society is so screwed up!) At least that was what was happening when I was an undergraduate at Rutgers in the late 60's.
Next question, should we be stocking whale sized bandages in our boat's first
aid kit, in case that happens to us/our whale friend (ouch!), or.. just
trust in the Lord (was that a pun?)

Good and gracious suggestions, Chris. It's a proper way to honor our
old Cal list friend.
When I got home from my schooner voyage, I found that the local fire
department had forced entry to my house when the @#$%***!!!! smoke
detector in the attic went berserk and the neighbors heard it. They
wanted to leave the window secure despite the latch they broke to gain
entry, so the propped the sash shut using (1) my cardboard mailing tube
of Cal 20 plans, and (2) a Patrick O'Brian book. And who says that all
this sailing paraphernalia is useless?
