Guys,
Does the 34 have the dreaded beam? Any other issues specific to the 34?
Thanks,

yes, some years have the dreaded beam, specifically the ones with icebox next to
beam. not all are laid out like that. Two years ago we went to san diego to cal
34 shop and also long beach. There were 5 we could find in January. The nicest
looking one was in a yacht club marina, wanted the most money, 29,000 I think.
When the salesman fired it up he dumped an oily mess overboard. Then next nicest
was a long beach liveaboard. It had mouse droppings in the wet locker. Don't
know if it ran. Three others didn't run or had no engines. One admittedly had
sunk, it was being "remodeled" like headliner being nailed up (yes nails).
Opening the sink cabinet (these three had no stoves) and looking closely
revealed termites. (all 3 had termites) all the through-hulls were iffy and some
had no handles left. The prices ranged from 1500 to 7000 and before we left,
lowered "just for us" to 1200 on the one but we were 34-cured. The bulkheads on
these were rotted, also much tabbing coming loose on the bulkheads over the
beam. If you look, you'll be really happy you have the 29. Helen

Greets Helen;
All good comments. I looked at four before and after buying the 29 all on
the east coast. They were all trash boats not worth restoring as they were
simply abused. Then again you do stumble on a good one.
This particular one is in Rock Hall, was originally listed for 25K with the
broker, so brokerage fees included, and she's now down to 19K. A fellow Cal
listee as well as myself inspected this boat, I was getting bored in the
winter and was looking for things to do, and she's basically good to go. She
can probably be had for less as the storage fee in the yard she is in is
expensive. If not sold soon, she will sit there for the entire winter again.
If Im not mistaken this will be the second or third winter.
Its a pricey place where she sits. For example, at one point I considered
shipping my 29 to Florida. They wanted 600US to drop the stick.
So if your looking for a good boat on the east coast, they can be found.
Delivery to the west coast from my research on the net is about 3-4K at the
most.

Good logic, Chris.
For every "Good Deal" there is a winner and a looser. It is very easy
to overlook fatal flaws. Get the guidance of someone who is really
knowledgeable and then follow their good advice.
My Best, Mike
