MD7A, Cal 31 Tach
sculler20002010-09-06 21:42
folks,
The tachometer (spelling??) on my cal 31 (Volvo MD7A engine) quit the other day. I have been researching via google and it looks like the prevailing wisdon is that it is usually the sender.
I did some wire jiggling and that did not do it so I am looking at the sender.
Anyone else have a tach go out? Any advice? ?
It looks like an exact replacement is about $250 plus ship, etc. I would love to aviod or reduce this cost if possible.
Thanks as usual.

I bought a VDO tach. Goes to 4000 RPM and has an engine hour meter. The folks i
bought it from on line were very helpful. Works great. I think it was about
$150. I am up in the Gulf Islands of BC and will check my paperwork when I get
back. If you have other questions I will be back in Seattle on Sunday.

Take the tach to a testing facility first.

Bob,
Thanks fro the reply.
Is the "VDO" a straight replacement for the original sender or does it require some additional configuration?
Please let me know what you can about your source and the installation.
Hope you had a good trip. The weather was awfull yesterday at my place in Poulsbo.

Thanks Joe,
I was hoping you would jump in. I did not know that there were places that do that kind of thing.
I will look around Seattle to see.
