Transducer Options

Following excellent advice in another email, I am going to grab a Standard CPF 180i plotter. It uses either a ~$300 thru hull or ~$70 transom mount transducer. Is there some reason I wouldn't use the transom mount? It certainly seems cheaper and easier...

Just out of interest, the cp180i does not require a transducer as far as I know but perhaps Ive missed something.. Are you planning on piping in depth data via NMEA input capabilities. Or more specifically, what are your plans for the transducer? /ch On Tue, Sep 7, 2010 at 12:57 PM, Compass <co… [at] compassdesigns.net> wrote: > > > Following excellent advice in another email, I am going to grab a Standard > CPF 180i plotter. > > It uses either a ~$300 thru hull or ~$70 transom mount transducer. Depends if your selected transom mounting location is always in the water. I took a through-hull transducer and mounted it inside in a housing made of PVC pipe components. I filled it with mineral oil. It works just fine. you could try your transom mount to see if it would work. Another technique I have heard of is to bond the transducer to the hull with epoxy putty. You could try the mineral oil trick by using some 5200 to bond a plastic cup to the hull. Put some mineral oil in it and drop the transducer in. If it works you could go to a more permanent instalation. Hmmm - as I have looked there is a depth/speed/temp trnasducer you can get that will be used with the built in fish finder on the CPF180i Note - CPF vs CP :) Barrie On Tue, Sep 7, 2010 at 5:42 PM, chris123 <ch… [at] gmail.com>wrote: > > > Just out of interest, the cp180i does not require a transducer as far as I > know but perhaps Ive missed something.. The CPF is different form the CP.
