Inexpensive Survey San Diego?

We The People2010-09-23 04:59
State Farm wants me to have a survey done of my 1965 Cal 28 before they agree to insure it again. The entire premium is less than $150.00. I have never looked into a survey before. What do they typically cost, and is there a relatively inexpensive one available in San Diego? Thanks. Bruce Stirling

Bruce, I have used Christian and Co in San Diego, most recently in 2006 on Footloose, our 2-34. State Farm is listed on their Approved Insurers list. They guarantee their survey will meet the underwriters standards. I don't recall if they were the least expensive, but I don't like paying more than I need to anymore than the next skipper. And you need to have the Surveyor approved with your insurance company or you are wasting your money. Christian has a long list of who they are approved for, might be an opportunity to shop insurance co's too. - HTH - Kirk http://www.themarinesurveyors.com/ http://www.themarinesurveyors.com/pages/insurance%20companies.htm On 9/22/2010 9:59 PM, We The People wrote: > > State Farm wants me to have a survey done of my 1965 Cal 28 before > they agree to insure it again. I have Allstate and have not had to do a survey in 21 years. ymmv. I had a survey done several years ago just for my own information. It wasn't worth the money. The only thing that came from it was I had to install a new exhaust system as he crushed the old one. I guess it was time for a new one but the way the yard set up the new one it flooded the engine with sea water a few times before I re-routed it. ours in sf bay cost $150 plus at haulout and progressive only needed one if we were to need a value of more than the bare minimum (9000) so if you've invested a lot, rigging, etc. and electronics, it makes it worth it to consider. or check progressive. we found when we were boat-shopping in Florida that they don't do Allstate, just for info.not sure who Florida accepts now, something to do with not meeting claims there once upon a time.
