Cal 31 Balsa Core Deck Start/End and Mast Step

Dear Cal Forum Members, Anyone happen to know how far the balsa core on the deck goes? Does it go extend all the way to the toerail or does it stop several inches before and become pure glass. What about the mast step? Is that all glass or balsa core under it? Thanks in Advance!

I can't answer your question about the extent of the core, but I believe the core in the 31 is plywood. Harleigh, You are correct and talk about pretty well built! I did a little research and found out the following: 1. Deck molding is plywood cored where heavy hardware is mounted and I noticed lots of through bolting at many of these areas too 2. Deck itself is not sandwiched in balsa, rather Klegell foam 3. There is 3/4" solid fiberglass at the mast deck step!
