Raw water cooled engines [ in salt water ] must not be operated higher than about 150*, or the salts will coat the engine's water passages, and restrict water flow. Joe, does that also pertain to engines which are "fresh" water cooled (fresh water plus antifreeze) which then disipate heat via a heat exchanger which uses salt water? Reggie (was that sentence cumbersome enough to obscure its intent?) Fresh water cooled engines operate about 185*F and do not have a problem with salts accumulating due to overheated seawater. *> > Joe DeMers - owner* Sound Marine Diesel LLC SoundMarineDiesel.com <http://www.soundmarinediesel.com/> *phone & fax (860) 666-2184* On 10/22/2010 12:21 PM, r good wrote: > > > Joe, does that also pertain to engines which are "fresh" water cooled > (fresh water plus antifreeze) which then disipate heat via a heat > exchanger which uses salt water? > Reggie > (was that sentence cumbersome enough to obscure its intent?) > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > To: Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com > From: je… [at] mindspring.com > Date: Fri, 22 Oct 2010 10:33:50 -0400 > Subject: Re: [Cal_Boats] Engine Temp Normal-Max? > > Raw water cooled engines [ in salt water ] must not be operated higher > than about 150*, or the salts will coat the engine's water passages, > and restrict water flow. > > Joe DeMers > > -----Original Message----- > >From: sculler2000 <sc… [at] yahoo.com <mailto:sc… [at] yahoo.com>> > >Sent: Oct 22, 2010 10:27 AM > >To: Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com <mailto:Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com> > >Subject: [Cal_Boats] Engine Temp Normal-Max? > > > >Folks, > > > >My Volvo diesel MD6A looks (to me ) to be running a little hot.
