Raw water cooled engines [ in salt water ] must not be operated higher than about 150*, or the salts will coat the engine's water passages, and restrict water flow.

Joe, does that also pertain to engines which are "fresh" water cooled (fresh water plus antifreeze) which then disipate heat via a heat exchanger which uses salt water?

Fresh water cooled engines operate about 185*F and do not have a problem
with salts accumulating due to overheated seawater.
