Mast Step Questions
micheck1232010-10-31 23:31
When I was growing up in Southern California - many moons ago, I sailed often in Lapworth Cal boats. Now that I can afford my own I am interested in getting a Cal in the size range of 29 to 34 feet. I will be taking it eventually off the coast in Washington/BC and the ocean can sometimes get nasty. It is recommended that one get a keel-stepped boat for 'blue water' sailing.
1: Is that significant enough to limit me?
2: Which versions of the Cal boats in the size range of 29 to 34 have keel-stepped masts?
3: How are the others supported?

Charles,
I have a '77 Cal 2-29 for sale in Bellingham, WA. However the mast is not
keel stepped. I don't believe any of the cal 29's have a keel stepped
mast. I don't know about the 34's.

Cal 2-29 "Rebecca Shea"
Bellingham, Wa.
