Re: [Cal_Boats] Cal 2-29 for sale on Ebay
The other thing is that most northern boats are used far less and as long
as they've done a good job keeping the snow and ice out you'll get a boat
generally in much nicer shape. I also recommend buying a boat that has been
outfitted to do what you want to do ie: race or cruise as converting from
one to the other soaks up the $$ (if you want to make either racing or
cruising the best you can make it anyway). I'm going to end up spending twice
the $$ as my boat needs upgrades/replacements (to bring it up to my
standards) in both racing and cruising equipment.
Oh well . . .

Glad you are back, had a spine thing myself a few years ago. About boats
and north/south prices; when northerners want to sell a boat, there's
usually no rush as the slips are less expensive (west coast anyway), there is a
constant southerly boat exodus relative to baja hahas( 120 go south, easy
way, then maybe 20 make it all the way back) another reason, slips in socal
are not as available and very! pricey, like double to triple the price from
Newport to SF bay. Then, I think the southern boats may be in a state of
less repair, and the warmer waters have drawbacks, like termite infestations
inside the boats. an example of wooden boats is the warmer waters can have
the toredo worms that don't happen in Washington. So, northerners have
more available $ to put into their boats. For instance, we bought a cal 36
for very little in socal, put a new engine (actually two before we got it the
way we wanted it) had to go buy sails just to get it back to our port in
Sf bay, and replace the fuel tank, and will be upgrading wiring, rigging,
portlights, etc. So a cheap boat still gets your $. Our 29 which we are
selling for "not cheap" has a beautifully running a4 with a feathering prop, a
nice gimballed cng stove with oven that is not all rusty, our interior is
nice with head and holding tank, new upholstery, and even more impressive,
new standing and running rigging with internal halyards. But we are not going
to give her away because we can afford the slip and race her year round
and do opening days with her, etc. The right person who sees he/she doesn't
have to dump a fortune into her, will realize he is ahead of the game and
will be able to sail the day he buys it.If one really wants to find deals on
boats, try Mexico, there seem to be some nice cals down there, but it's a
challenge getting to those harbors. Helen

Subject: [Cal_Boats] Cal 2-29 for sale on Ebay
Guys,
There's a 1973 in Washington for sale, looks pretty well cruise equipped,
but he's asking $14K. Isn't that a bit high? I paid less for mine a bunch
of years ago, but it wasn't as well equipped, and mine has an A4. Not
complaining, I have a diesel... CAR. But I never have to bleed it, etc.
Don't have to bleed my A4 either. Since I put a new mechanical fuel pump on it
starts every time.
Whadda ya tink?
PS You have to forgive me, I just got my life back this week, lost it for
6 weeks. The short version is called spinal stenosis.
