Chris I've not been following this thread so if this is a repeat I apologize. At the boat show this year there was a company selling essentially a vinyl overlay that looks like teak and Holly. Fairly expensive as I recall I Think around $9 - $10 per SF but if you don't have that much it may be doable. I'm not at home now but if you want the name of the company let me know and I'll look thru my bag o stuff from the show. No its OK..Defender and several others sell this stuff. Couple of issues with the type based on my reading. Issue one is that that stuff comes in 6 ft length, which requires a seam (mechanically welded...ie: special tools) if your length is longer. Hence the question about the pan length as I don't have that number, but seem to recall it was closer to eight. If that is correct, its not a DIY project to use this material type independent of vendor. Tiles are not acceptable as you need to bond them to the floor making it hard to remove. A floating floor system pinned at the sides with teak strips is what I'm looking for given the shape of the 29 pan. Two lateral length of 2" hook and loop Velcro down the center, one on each side of the bilge, and on length along each outer side, then trimmed with a teak strip should hold the plate in place. Interesting challenge to come up with the right material however. The alternative is to get rid of the pooch.....but thats not really an option...:) Actually I make more of a mess below then she does. Its just the hair in the carpet that eventually gets to you and requires constant cleaning. So something non absorbent, and with no or limited fiber is what I'm looking for and it needs to be flexible enough to lie flat in the curvature of the pan. thanks and best regards /ch On Thu, Nov 25, 2010 at 8:22 AM, Paul <pw… [at] aol.com> wrote: > > > Chris I've not been following this thread so if this is a repeat I > apologize. Watch the video on this page. You can do the welding yourself http://plasteak.com/osc/product_info.php?cPath=1_30_74&products_id=417&osCsid=6844388a7c99ce4574edcdfd0d011fb2 <http://plasteak.com/osc/product_info.php?cPath=1_30_74&products_id=417&osCsid=6844388a7c99ce4574edcdfd0d011fb2>This like a fairly high end solution where they build it up for you from your drawing http://flexiteek.com/ <http://flexiteek.com/>Just a google search, no special knowledge on my part. Much nicer then the vinyl I saw at Home Depot today.....:) Think I will get the sample kit and check it out. What will be interesting is the how thick and pliable the material is as this will determine if a double cut is possible. Therein lies the problem with all flooring materials as if its too tuff an accurate double is not viable. Been there, done that, got the T shirt. Many thanks... Final question, any one have experience with this product first hand....?? /ch On Thu, Nov 25, 2010 at 12:32 PM, Allen Edwards < al… [at] paloaltophoto.com> wrote: > > > Watch the video on this page. Chris, I watched the video on seaming. The music made me think that Freddie was about to jump in with his chainsaw. Seriously, you will note that the material they used had no particular pattern or direction. I think getting an "almost invisible" seam with some wood looking veneer would be difficult, especially across, instead of with, the wood appearance pattern. Also, HH pointed out the thermal protection appears to be close to nil. Shave the dog. Ya know its interesting the challenges that sailboat ownership throws at you. Not to belabor the point, but I dont think she would appreciate it.... http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/inhV1h_CcYGd-Y4HOK25CA?feat=directlink Furthermore, the seeming component may need some more study as the installation notes speak of seaming along the holly strip, ie horizontally not longitudinally. Appreciate what Helen points out wrt to carpeting but prefer not to go that route. /ch On Thu, Nov 25, 2010 at 11:45 PM, Husar, Charlie [USA] < hu… [at] bah.com> wrote: > > > Chris, I watched the video on seaming.
